Sun Damage & Pigmentation Removal

Let’s get rid of those sun spots and pigmentation!

What is Pigmentation?

Sun Spot and Pigmentation are spots that have usually occurred on the most exposed areas of the body such as the hands, face, shoulders, décolletage and neck. It is a skin discolouration that usually appears as blotchy brown or pinkish mark and is often caused by either aging, years of damage in the sun, hormonal changes (such as pregnancy) or reactions to cosmetics. The darkening is caused by cells called Melanocytes producing an excess of Melanin to a specific area.

What is Pigmentation Removal?

A MEDICAL GRADE laser is used to provide an intense burst of light to target the pigmented lesions, causing the selective healing of the upper dermis. The benefit of using a MEDICAL GRADE laser is that the pigment can be precisely targeted without causing any damage to surrounding skin tissue.

What type of pigmentation is treated?

Types of pigmentation we can treat include:

  • Ageing spots
  • Hereditary Factors
  • Excessive exposure to the sun
  • Certain medications that cause pigmentation e.g.: (contraceptive pill)
  • Injury to the skin (including burns and post-treatment inflammation)
  • Makeup
  • Freckles
  • General unevenness of skin colour (brown patches, reddish spots/acne scars)
  • Post trauma increase in pigmentation
  • Liver spots/age spots
  • Acne

How will the skin appear after treatment?

Following the treatment, the pigmentation will appear darker and can take up to 2 weeks to flake off. Swelling and redness of the treated area is common and can take up to 48 hours to settle.

Does it hurt?

Some patients report feeling a slight stinging sensation during their pigmentation removal treatment, followed by some redness which usually settles in 2 – 4 hours. Ice can be used directly before and after to help to reduce sensitivity.

How many treatments are required?

We recommend 4 – 6 treatments performed in 4 week intervals. The number of treatments required will depend on the type and size of the pigmented lesion you may have.

Who is this treatment suitable for?

Anyone with freckles + pigmentation visible on their face and body. This treatment is suitable for women and men of any age.

What other treatments are available to reduce pigmentation?

After completing a full course of laser pigmentation, we can provide a combination of affordable treatments such Cosmedical Grade Peels, Dermapen Micro Needling and Microdermabrasion to reduce the discolouration and even out skin tone, increasing its natural radiance.

Cosmedical Grade Peels

This treatment is perfect for visibly reducing the appearance of superficial pigmentation. Cosmedical grade peels penetrate the skin’s surface and remove the outer layers to reveal the newer skin beneath. The type of peel used may vary depending on your skin type and the desired result.

Dermapen Micro Needling

Hormonal pigmentation can be caused by numerous factors such as pregnancy or medication, and requires a different approach to treatment. Dermapen Micro Needling can be used to break apart the bands of hyper-pigmentation associated with hormonal causes. This treatment also causes an organic stimulation of collagen and the skin’s supportive elements.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a medical mechanical application based on a dual mechanism. This non-invasive, painless treatment uses a diamond tipped wand to exfoliate clean, refine, and smooth the skin, while the vacuum raises and holds the skin against the diamond tip and stimulates blood circulation and lymphatic drainage to the deeper layers of the dermis.
