What are Skin Peels?

Chemical peeling is a deep exfoliation that helps to improve the tone and texture of your skin by smoothing out the signs of ageing and sun exposure.

The goal of any peel is the removal of the skin’s outer layer of primarily dead cells and the stimulation of collagen and elastin to tighten and firm the healthy layer beneath. This procedure can effectively diminish the appearance of wrinkles, age spots, blemishes and more with little to no trauma to healthy skin cells.

How many treatments will I need?

Most individuals will normally require 4 – 6 treatments, 2 – 4 weeks apart. Depending on the skin concern and the condition of the skin, some individuals may require more treatments.

How much down time is there?

This will depend on the type of peel used, the condition of the skin, medication taken and general. Redness, inflammation mild to moderate peeling is a usual for 1 – 5 days post peel. The stronger the peel, the more intense the redness, peeling and downtime.

Do I need to use special products at home?

For the majority of chemical peels, it is essential to thoroughly prepare the skin at home by using good quality skincare products. Skinstitut homecare products are recommended to use at home to maximise skincare results and minimise any adverse reactions pre and post peel.

Salicylic Acid Peel

Salicylic Acid Peels are treatments used to deeply exfoliate the surface layers of the skin the (stratum corneum) making it a good agent for peeling. Derived from willow bark, ideal for oily and acne problematic skin.

Salicylic Acid breaks the bonds that hold the skin cells together, causing them to shed away or peel. As the skin regenerates, it is rejuvenated.

Salicylic acid cleans out your pores and sloughs away dead skin cells that build up around your hair follicle and cause blemishes.

Glycolic Acid Peel

Glycolic acid peel is an Alpha-Hydroxy Acid (AHA) chemical exfoliation treatment. It is known to improve the health and appearance of skin by improving its tone, texture, and overall complexion.

Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

This peel dissolves excess sebum and dead skin cells, resulting in  smoother, brighter, and younger-looking skin.

Mandelic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that provide skin benefits ranging from exfoliation to increasing hydration and firmness.

Mandelic acid is derived from bitter almonds provides deep exfoliation with minimal irritation. This acid is found to be affective for inflammatory acne. Indicated for the treatment for photo-ageing, oily, congested and acneic skins

A Jessner peel is a mild to moderate chemical peel, which induces superficial peeling of the skin. This peel is a combination of Lactic, Salicylic, and citric acid.
